Notice of Demonstration Demanding the Immediate Resignation of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ)/Noda Administration

The administration of Yoshihiko Noda is seeking to increase consumption taxes on the pretext of securing a steady source of revenue to cover social security costs and restoring fiscal health.

This comes on the heel of tax increases for reconstruction, and it will place a great burden on the people of Japan.
As our Party has stated in the past, such a tax increase will dampen consumer confidence and hinder corporate activities, and it is clearly a misguided policy that will lead to a further shrinking of domestic demand.

Rather than increasing taxes and shrinking the economy, we should be addressing the top priority issues of curbing deflation and boosting economic growth.

The fundamental objective of our Party is to build a social security system that is based on self-supporting endeavor.
From this perspective, we cannot under any circumstances countenance the DPJ’s “state socialism” which will rob the people of their wealth through tax hikes, expand the size of government, and curtail economic freedom.

On January 28, our Party plans to hold demonstrations in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya calling for the immediate resignation of the DPJ/Noda administration in order to show our firm stance against the tax increases that the Noda administration has been seeking.
We request your ongoing support and cooperation in pursuit of this goal.
